Bantayan Island is essentially a fishing island group. It is reported to be within the migration route of fish coming from the equatorial belt of China Sea. Bantayan is blessed with abundant fish because of its strategic location. However, during recent days marine resources are declining due to over fishing, blasting, use of poison, use of fine mesh nets, and the intrusion of commercial fishing boats within the municipal waters.
Considering the above-mentioned factors concerning the actual scenario of the total marine environment and its resources, this “Municipal Fisheries Management Development Plan” is carefully drafted as a basic tool to guide the municipality in its final direction of achieving the goals of alleviating and sustaining the livelihood resource of marginal fisher folks.
